 Introduction of Beijing EMC

Beijing Emergency Medical Center (hereinafter referred as Beijing EMC), located at West Street of Qianmen, covers an area of 6,800 sq.m with a floor space of13, 000 sq.m. Its former body is Beijing Red Cross Emergency Medical Center. In 1983, the Italian government and Chinese counterpart jointly built Beijing EMC, which was put into operation on 25th, March of 1988 with the opening of emergency phone call "120". In 1997, it was assessed as Grade III-A general EMC by Beijing Hospital Assessment Committee. On 25th, March of 2004, Beijing Emergency Medical Aid Center was established, which was attached by Beijing Emergency Medical Institute and Beijing Emergency Medical Training Center.

Beijing EMC boasts modern medical aid command center, 75 first-aid stations, 10 suburban first-aid substations, hundreds of ambulances and a group of professional medical staff, which collectively constitute the medical aid system outside of hospital, along with 110, 119, 122, public transportation, subway and airport and so on, to build an interactive system for ensuring the security and stability of Beijing.

Beijing EMC took the position of commanding the out-hospital emergent medical aid, the major accidents broke out in Beijing, overall distribution of sanitary resources, spot first-aid, the wounded person transfer, and the medical guarantee for large-scale international and national activities and conferences held in Beijing. The annual average first-aid handled by 120 is near to 700 thousand, and the annual ambulance dispatching is around 200 thousand. Therefore, it is praised as "a team full of vigor and strength".

In 2005, Beijing EMC implemented the functional transformation in part, removing the original in-hospital function of medical treatment, closing emergent treatment rooms and wards, switching the full medical power to the out-hospital first-aid, and assuming mainly the command of 120, daily medical first-aid service, emergent assistance for unexpected events, the construction and management of first-aid network, the popularization and training of first-aid knowledge.

In July, 2005, Beijing EMC and Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee signed the contract in terms of first-aid service for Olympic Games. Since then, Beijing EMC would provide first-aid service of medical treatment for Beijing Olympic Games and Paralympic Games based on the guarantee for daily medical service for mass public.
